Enlarging Our Circle

One of our Outreach Team members, Mma Dinah Chabalala, often takes it upon herself to visit families that live close to her in the nearby village of Ga Phasha. She looks after folks the best she can with few resources but a lot of heart. She really is Mother Theresa in many ways. This year she asked us if we could visit a few of these families and possibly offer some assistance. So, off we all went – visiting and assessing.
Our eyes and hearts were opened to some unimaginable poverty and to some of the realities of the Trump/Musk shutdown of USAID funding. Clinics that have been the saving grace for people with HIV/AIDS are firing staff and shutting down. Many women and children have been kept alive, some for decades, with the antiretroviral medications that they need. It’s uncertain what the South African government will do, but it is a certainty that the pause in care will cause serious difficulties and deaths.

It seems like the thing to do is to help where we can, so we will continue to assist these new families throughout the year and hopefully treatment for the ones who need it will get sorted out soon. In the meantime, the moms received food and the kids received some of the extra clothing that we brought with us along with a few toys. We gave one boy a baseball mitt and ball. He had never seen one, but a few tosses to him and he caught on.
